The three-hour window after the onset of a stroke is a critical period to administer medical treatments on a stroke victim in order to significantly reduce the effects of stroke and reduce permanent disability.
Even developed countries, like the United States, has trouble seizing the opportunities within this time frame to administer treatment on its stroke victims. Only a third of the stroke victims in the States can be treated within the 3-hour time period from symptoms onset of the stroke. Only 5% of that number can receive an injection of the clot dissolving agent in time for its optimal effect.
